Why you should visit Vanuatu

Hello Vanuatu! Vanu whatta? That was the most made comment I received when I said that I was traveling over there. Vanuatu is a Pacific Island far beyond anything you can imagine. And I regret staying for only one week. Vanuatu felt so far away from home and it was 15,608 kilometers. Not a normal stroll in the park. But I’m very convinced that Vanuatu is worth your time. In this post 3 rasons why you should visit Vanuatu.

Lets go on an adventure…

With two girlfriends we decided to make a quick visit to Vanuatu. We were staying in Sydney, so we were pretty close. It was the best decision we have made. We flew to Port Villa with no plan. We thought we could visit one or two islands by boat. We couldn’t be more wrong. Taking a “ferry” to another island is not common. Besides, the schedules are not really reliable. Anyhow, around Port Vila there is enough to explore. Go to the local market, walk around their bay or rent a taxi for a day. Ask to be dropped at the Blue Lagoon as well at Eton Beach. Take your time and enjoy the natural wonders. Because this island is pretty green with white sandy beaches.

Couple of days under the Milky Way…

As part of our adventure we decided to take it to the next level, going to a private beach at Tranquility Island Resort. So before you get too excited they do not really offer luxury. They do offer a chance to get back to nature. It was the best thing to do to get some rest and to appreciate simplicity.  You can easily wonder around without seeing another human being, but watch out for the spiders (there were a lot of them)! At Tranquility Island Resort the service is fantastic. They prepared all our meals during our stay and we ate them with all guests at the resort. With all I mean one other couple. And the interaction is fun, but it also brought us to Tanna… Because the pictures and movies they showed us were so surreal. That evening under the Milky Way we decided to book a flight to Tanna.

The inside of an active volcano!

Have you ever seen the inside of an active vulcano? Well back at 2019 I didn’t. Maybe I was naive but I didn’t know it would even be possible. For me this must be the main reason why you should visit Vanuatu. So see here the inside of Mount Yasur. Peering down into the rumbling (you can hear it all the time), exploding lava storm of Mt. Yasur is a sight I will never ever forget, or at least not soon. Not sure if it is possible to walk up the vulcano, but we decided to jump on a jeep with a guide. So very easy going. Just some heads up, you don’t get any protective gear, nothing for your eyes, mouth or nose. If you feel that you need it, you do need to bring it yourself. Having sayed that, this experience is just WAAAAAAAOOOOOOOW! It is terrifying and at the same time captivating. Another minor detail, at Mt. Yasur you will find the world’s only post-box on top of a volcano. In case you want to send a postcard…
