Hello beachlovers! Since I was born in Portugal, I have spent a lot of time in my birth country. However, only during the pandemic I made my way to the south of Portugal, Algarve. And I was amazed and surprised about its beauty. Algarve has much more to offer than only beaches, but I still would like to share my favorites beaches in the beautiful south. Please do not wait as long as I did to go to the south.
Praia da Marinha – My absolutely favorite beach. With the yellow stone cliffs, crystal clear blue waters. The walk to the beach and the way up again. The views when you arrive. Just everything about it, loved it. First, we passed by kayak. Seeing the beach from the water is different. So, then we decided to go back. It is a good stroll, walking down (and back up again), but it is worth it.
Praia Falesia – This one is also really special, it is a class on its own. At the foot of cliffs, you will find a fantastic beach of sand along the ocean. You see locals, tourists and fishermen.
Praia do Beliche – After you have visited something that you can call the end of the world, Cabo de Sao Vicente, you can walk down the cliffs all the way to this beautiful beach Praia do Beliche.
Ilha de Tavira – A bit different than the other seven beaches on the list. You need to take the boat to this beach. It is a small walk from the ferry to the beach. You pass a lot of restaurants, so you can have a drink or grab lunch. The beach is very long, the sand is quite white (for Portugal standards) and the water is not too cold. You can combine a day on the beach with walking around the city of Tavira. It is a cute typical Portuguese town.
Dona Ana – a beautiful tiny beach. The waters have beautiful blue colors. But make sure you get there at the right time. Otherwise, you will be in the shades and it can get a bit cold. Unless you want that of course, to cool down after a day in the sun.
Meia Praia – Is a very long beach, not as you would expect from its name. This beach reminded me of the beaches at Costa da Caparica. The ones that I have been going my whole life. It is quite wide and therefore I loved it. It felt that we had all the space. There are also a range of paths where you can walk along the coastline.
Ponta da Piedade – Along the coastline you have a lot of rock formations. Yellow golden cliffs. There are also several grottos and in case you would like to see the sunset go all the way up. Nearby the lighthouse you can set yourself for the best views.
Cacela Velha Beach – If you are not close by, maybe it is not worth the drive. However, we really enjoyed the small, very very very small, fishermen town. The beach is different than the rest of the Algarve. We stayed at Conversas de Alpendre, so it was close by and we spent there an afternoon.
