How expensive is North Italy?
The year 2022 started with a trip to North Italy. Traveling off-season has its advantages. It is easier to find accommodation last minute for instance. It also has its disadvantages, such as the fact that many restaurants were closed. Even so, even though Italy is considered a “cheap” country in Europe, I’ll let the numbers talk. How expensive is North Italy for real? Is bella Italia also bella for your bank accout? This is a summary for 10 days for 2 persons, mid-range travel style.

What do you spend in 10 days as a couple in Italy? Can it be cheaper? Yes, it can. It all depends on whether you think it is worth it or not. At the end, there are some tips to save some bucks.

Travel is not free. Let’s be honest, we all have heard stories about traveling the world for free. Those exaggerated stories might be true, but for most of us, it means: If you would like to travel you need those big green papers, the so-called dollars (or any other currency). Yet, for Italy, I have some saving tips.
- Eat at a good pizzeria – They always have pizza and pasta, and those are not expensive.
- Call accommodation – Call the hotel, hostel, bed & breakfast, or any other accommodation you would like to stay in. You can negotiate a good rate, especially in the winter.
- Take the bus or walk – Take public transportation or even better, use your legs (if possible
- Visit the local parks – Visit the many parks, even during wintertime the parks were very vivid. I guess that Italians enjoy the outside.
- Buy a city pass – Are you planning to stay for a while in one city? Check out the possibility to buy a city pass.
