What to do in St. Petersburg if you only have one day? Well, a lot. But if you just have one day, then maybe the below itinerary can help.
Start your day with a tour, of course after breakfast. I highly can recommend the “Petersburg Free Tour”. Very passionate people talking about their city. However, make sure you find a tour that you feel comfortable with.
After the tour, you can still visit one or two churches before heading for lunch. Think about the Church of the Spilled Blood, St. Isaac’s Cathedral or the Kazan Cathedral. If you decide to visit the Kazan Cathedral it is worth the 264 steps all the way to the globe for an amazing view over the city.
Do not skip lunch, because St. Petersburg is a foodies paradise. A lot to discover and to enjoy. So, make sure you reserve your spot if needed.
When you finished your lunch, head your way to one of the fabulous museums. I loved the following museums: the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, Faberge museum or the Museum of Political History. The Hermitage is huge and for me one day was not enough, something to consider.
Once the museums are closed, make your way to Nevsky street. A busy street with a lot of shops. Especially during winter time it is decorated with a lot of lights. My favorite stop was at the Singer Café, make sure you have a window seat.
Before enjoying your dinner take yourself to the underground. The subway stations are just like palaces. Make sure to stop at Avtovo, Kirovsky Zavod, Technologichesky Institut, Baltiyskaya, Narvskaya and Admiralteyskaya.
