The South of Portugal, the Algarve. Famous for its beaches and rightly so. When traveling to the beautiful south, where should you stay? There are many places, Airbnb, hotels, hostels, guesthouses and so on. We decided to splurge a little bit and stayed in fantastic hotels, small hotels. Food wise? What are the best places to eat in the Algarve? Well it is hard to go wrong in Portugal, but in any case in this blog you will find a couple of recommendations.
Another fine place to have a typical Portuguese breakfast, among the locals is Pastelaria Rosa (Café da Rosa). My personal favorites are the “Bola de Berlim and torrada with Compal de Pera”. A safe option is to choose the pastel de nata, you almost can’t go wrong with that one.
In case you would like to enjoy sunset with some fingerfood, go to Amuras Bar. One of half a dozen bar restaurants overlooking the marina from Lagos.
A chill and relax place to have lunch is The Hangout. A small place with authentic great dishes, but a little bit different. From the inside you can even spot the sea.
For dinner go to O Tonel. It doesn’t matter if you sit inside or not both are great. Inside you are surrounded by the Portuguese tiles, azulejos. Outside is cute and we always love to watch people passing by. Dishes are quite big and food is yummm.
Not a favorite restaurant, but a favorite dish, chicken piri-piri. Originally from the Algarve so many places to try. Just follow your nose and queues. You almost can’t go wrong on this one.
Fortunately and unfortunately, we had a superb hotel in the Algarve with fantastic breakfast and an amazing restaurant. So, this blog is a bit shorter than you are used to, but I still wanted to share some of our favorite places to go to in the Algarve.
In case you have the budget, you must stay at Conversas de Alpendre. Cliché but a home away from home, only then with a lot of extra services. Been all around the world, I must say this was one of the best stays ever. A small family-owned hotel, very private, quiet area and they thought about everything. They even created a parking space, very cool.
We were welcomed with romantic candle lights in our room. The room was gorgeous and clean. The staff was very friendly and kind. The whole atmosphere was splendid. The food at night was delicious and the same goes for the breakfast. Simply perfect. It is possible to have dinner with them even if you are not a guest.
I must say that the drinks and the snacks at the pool were a bit too expensive. Also, the WiFi was not great. But in our opinion, enjoy the moment and the quietness, it’s so rare these days. Conclusion about Conversas de Alpendre? ABSOLUTELY WORTH YOUR WHILE.
In case you would like a fancy – adults only – hotel in Albufeira, Alamos Retreat would be a good pick. They have plenty of yoga classes or book a private massage. They serve a vegan breakfast, take it to the pool and enjoy your stay.
