Oh Aruba.. How much I fell in love with you, even I did not expect that. I have been lucky to have visited different bounty beaches around the world. One may expect that you will get bored if you only visit the beach, well not in Aruba. Aruba has so much more to offer. How to spend your time in Aruba? Here are 8 top things to do in Aruba.
Are you crazy with the heat over there? Yes, please do. They have bike lanes and besides, the traffic is calm. Just like their whole lifestyle. You can rent it for a couple of hours or even a whole day (USD 25). It is a “grab and go” kind of thing, meaning you can drop the bike almost everywhere and pick it up as you go. You can stop wherever you feel like it. We cycled along the coastline from Palm beach all the way to Druif beach. Whenever we thought it was getting hot, we stopped and jumped in the water.
This way you can go all the way to the natural pool. Because it is only allowed with a 4 x 4. In case you do not fancy that, at least make sure you visit the national park Arikok Wildlife Park. It is quite an experience to get to the natural pool. It is just a fun day out.
For us that meant whenever we fancied a nice drink, we went to the Ritz-Carlton. They had delicious cocktails and the lunch was also not to be missed. Should you be far from the Ritz, there are a lot places you can sip on your pina colada. Just make sure to be on time.
We were very sorry to hear that we could not go with Roberto’s. But he recommended another tour and we loved it. We snorkeled with fish and we saw the famous shipwreck USS Antilla. We stopped at different places to jump in the water. Just make sure to check out what your needs are. Because there are many party boats. If that is your thing go for it, if not just ask what kind of service they offer on the boat.
We have been to fantastic restaurants. Some fancy and some very basic and we loved all of them. We wrote a special blog about all the gems in Aruba. They also have many food trucks and some of them are delicious, just follow your nose.
We did the kayak night tour (a bit overpriced) and we also did a lot of snorkeling. But there are plenty other choices. Such as (wind)surfing, scuba diving, yoga on the water etc. You can be for one activity on the water or spend a whole day in it. There are group activities and individual things to do. Find out what you would like to do.
If you love a good lookout, this is the place to be. The views are fantastic, especially at the top of the lighthouse. Watch out for the wind, it can be quite strong. Even if you do not climb the lighthouse, just at the beginning of it you have incredible views. You see the golf course, the sea and the inlands. Make sure to check that out!
The last on the top 8 list. Visit San Nicolas for the graffiti and local feeling even though it was not my favorite, this place felt kind of raw and authentic. You can see the old oil refinery, not the prettiest but for some reason it made it a bit more ‘real’ instead of all the glamour on the high rise. Just walk around and see the beautiful graffiti.
There is even much more to do around the island. But for us not everything was as great as it maybe sounds, for example the Aruba Aloe Vera plantation / museum. We went there and we did not really liked that. However, feel free to discover the island by yourself. Enjoy the lovely kind people and the delicious food. And of course, do not forget to make your way to the beach…
