In case you have a lovely bed & breakfast, you can have your breakfast over there. We stayed at Casa Elisa Dimora Urbana. Otherwise make your way to Tiffany’s and eat Gnocco Frito. It is something you dip in your cappuccino or coffee and it is to die for.
Then make your way to the Duomo at Piazza Grande. No entry fees and it is worth a visit. In case you only have one day in Modena, make sure to book a food tour. Really can recommend Taste Bologna and ask for Giullia. You will have plenty of food, so no lunch needed. Once the tour has come to an end, make your way to the library. I have a thing for libraries. During sunset walk to the old train station to see the lights go one. The inside is not that spectacular, but the outside is very cool. Big bonus, walking to the train station you will pass along very old buildings and small sideways. For dinner, choose wisely.
If you have the time, it is worth to stay for another day in Modena. Have breakfast at Mercato Albinelli or just time to wander around. It is a vivid market in the morning and fun to see the locals doing their daily groceries. Then move your way to La Consorteria 1966. Here you can do some tasting of the famous balsamic. Even though it originally comes from a small town nearby, Spilamberto, in this store you can taste some old balsamics and they will even explain the whole process. After this you can enjoy lunch at Trattoria Ermes. Don’t expect a fancy restaurant or an English menu. It is quite an experience, and the food is tasty. In the afternoon you can visit the Ferrari Museum. To end your day, have an apperetivo at Cathedrali Pasticceria.
