How expensive is one of the longest train journeys? I was very fortunate to make this trip twice. On a budget and a more luxurious version. I would like to emphasize that in both cases I absolutely loved the experience. Even though it was almost the same journey, both are very different and unique on its own.
One person backpacking for 25 days.
This is the budget for one person backpacking for 25 days. Meaning bringing the instant noodles, a lot of walking and almost no guided tours. More spontaneous activities. Absolutely good to do it this way. All amounts in euro currency.
Meaning no fancy dinners, no going out all the time. Street food is a backpackers best friend.
Visiting various churches, museums, husky sledding tour, an afternoon in the sauna, guided tour in Mongolia, temples in China, the forbidden city, palaces and some audiotours. Back then I still had a student discount.
This include all the train tickets for the Railway, plane ticket from the Netherlands to Russia and some public transportation.
We only slept in hostels, in girls dorms. Do not forget, the half of the time you sleep in the train.
Some souvenirs for back home.
Toilet visit, visa Mongolia (other visa I did not track).
The price for two for 19 days.
Travelling with your grandmother means splurging… However, she was still travelling with me, meaning she couldn’t escape my “do not break the bank” attitude. We often slept in beautiful hotels, but we also managed to sleep in a hostel (I kid you not) and we also ate street food. A trip to remember. All amounts in euro currency.
My grandmother did not always fancy instant noodles, so we ate more often in the train. We compensated with street food.
A couple of tours, but also one free tour - tipped based - in St. Petersburg. Various museums one ballet show.
This include all the train tickets for the Railway, public transportation, taxi's, plane tickets to Beijing and back home from St. Petersburg.
Some very nice hotels and one hostel.
Some souvenirs for back home.
Mostly the visa costs.
