So you have decided. Or at least thinking of taking this unique train. Maybe you are wondering how the food will be in these places or where to sleep. For the food part I wrote a separate post. For the sleeping part, I got you covered in this post the best places to sleep when getting off the train.

China – Beijing

Starting or finishing your trip in Beijing means staying at The Orchid Hotel. Traveling with my grandmother (79!) and this was the best place to stay in this amazing but very chaotic busy city. Let me start by saying that the staff is amazing. Always someone available to help you out (reception is 24/7). Always arranging stuff and sitting at the desk to welcome you home with a smile.

Then the rooms. They are spacious enough, clean, very nice decorated. Our only “complaint” was that the water did not get really hot. We understand that the plumbing is old, but maybe something to consider. The location is great. And the breakfast is amazing. They also give you a local phone, even though we did not use it, it is very helpful and handy.

For smaller budgets, Leo Courtyard hostel is a fine alternative.

Mongolia – Ulaanbaatar

We stayed at the Golden Gobi Hostel. We arrived by train early in the morning and someone of the hostel came to pick us up. When we arrived at the hostel the breakfast was just waiting for us to arrive. Unfortunately, we could only stay one night so we booked a tour at the hostel. That’s was a good tour for a good price! The rooms in the hostel were big and clean. Showers are ok! I’m not sure if it’s the right place to meet backpackers, but maybe it had to do with the time we were there (Winter). One little minus thing, wifi doesn’t work that good.

Russia – Irkutsk

Wherever I go, I always do my utmost best to find the unique places to stay. I have a thing for boutique hotels. Boutique Hotel Marussia is a very lovely cozy boutique. The rooms are not huge but big enough. We really enjoyed the warm big shower after traveling for days in the train. Staff overall was friendly to help. They reserved various tours and transfer for us. The location is superb.

Russia – Yekaterinaburg

Hotel Renomme, we loved, but absolutely loved this place. Firstly, the staff is superb. Always ready to help, very patient and just wonderful. They arranged transfer from and to the railway station. We also booked a wonderful tour with them. Then the rooms, very boutique alike. Everything was clean and the hot shower was very appreciated. Absolutely wonderful. Location is great and the breakfast is amazing. A lot of choice and they even prepare some “fresh” things for you. Also very good plus, it is not that expensive hotel. Are you visiting Yekaterinburg for work or for pleasure this is the place to stay.

Russia – Moscow

In case you would like to splurge, stay at the Myasnitsky Boutique Hotel. Wow! Just wow. This lovely hotel in the middle of the huge city of Moscow. Even though it is on a busy street you do not hear any noise, maybe exempt from your snoring roommate. The rooms are very nice decorated and most of all, it is very clean. After a busy day in this city, this is the place to come to rest. The ladies and gents at the front desk are very polite and helpful. Always ready to welcome you and help you. They even help carrying the suitcases (as the hotel does not have an elevator). Breakfast is just next door and you have a lot to choose from. If I ever come back to Moscow, this would be the place I would like to stay.

However, in case you do not feel to spend all your money or in case you want to meet fellow travelers, GoodMood Hostel is a perfect choice. Great hostel, clean and nearby the red square. The rooms are big and clean. You can use all the facilities even after checking out. Staff speaks English.

Russia – St. Petersburg

It doesn’t matter if you are traveling by yourself or as a couple, you absolutely need to stay at the Soul Kitchen Hostel. I simply loved everything about this hostel. The first time I stayed at this place, it was snowing, cold outside and only being away for one day I already was lost. I was already regretting my worldtrip idea. But then I finally found the hostel and was received by a big Russian teddy bear who helped me with my luggage. So the staff is there for you. The rooms are big and clean as is the restroom. Notice: the restroom is mixed. This hostel is nearby everything. So free towels free wifi and free use off their macs! Please stay here and enjoy your stay in Saint Petersburg even better! Even my grandmother would say so. I stayed here with her for the second time. If I will be back, this is the place where I would go.
