This of course has something to do with personal feelings. For me Sydney feels really chill, easy going and relaxed. The people of Sydney are just so easy going and super friendly.
Well to be honest, you can still avoid the beaches. However, would you really would like to do that? Sydney has so many beautiful beaches. And I’m not only talking about Bondi beach, even though that one is also breath taking. The Northern beaches are also worth your time. Or to stay a bit closer, the walk Bondi to Coogee takes you along nice beaches (such as Bronte beach and Clovelly beach). Just take your time, there is no need to be in a rush.
Sydney has great museums. Some of them are for free. The ones that are not free, are still worth it. My personal favorites are the Power House, Sydney Jewish Museum, Susanna Place Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Reserve Bank of Australia Museum and Art Gallery of NSW.
Sydney has enough parks where you can walk around, read a good book or enjoy a picknick. Sydney also has many trails and other walks you can do. Also outside of Sydney – one day trip – you have wonderful national parks. Take your time to enjoy all the pretty things.
The architecture is fantastic. I mean the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, do I really need to say more? Then all the different neigbourhoods. Such as the rocks, the birth of Sydney. Or how about Surry Hills, with its Victorian terrace houses.
The great weather. Even during wintertime it is not freezing cold. The summers are hot, but make your way to the beach to cool down. Or make your way to QVB, to cool down while shopping.
During the year there is always something happening in Sydney. You have the Holiday Season, Chinese New Year, Eastern or Vivid (a light and music festival). The whole city is decorated and there is enough to do and see.
The Sydney Harbour is amazing. It’s a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or just to stroll around. Travelling by boat to “the other side” is also an option. Or see reason number two. For me a big plus was the many outdoor pools the city has to offer on fantastic locations.
Sydney has an amazing food scene. A real foodies paradise. With many different restaurants and bars, you have enough choices. From Indian curries, to Italian pizzas or some good noodles. For more about where to eat and sleep, I wrote a separate post!
Sydney is a great getaway to explore the rest of Australia. You do not need to go far or travel long. What about the Blue Mountains or Jervis Bay? There is enough to see and do around Sydney.
